Bought this today, but not from Amazon as it was on offer elsewhere. I have been a Dyson convert for years and my latest is the Dyson ball, which has seemed to do the job well (I have two cats so there is lots of fur), but the Dyson is difficult on my long staircase and I have to resort to balancing the unit half way up to finish the job, so when I saw this machine being demonstrated in my local store, the fact that it comes apart to do the stairs sold it to me. I found it relatively easy to put together without having to resort to the instructions (yes, I know that's what men do, and I'm a woman but I seriously didn't need the instructions as it's intuitive) and was up and running in about 3 minutes. I vacuumed my carpet with the Dyson and then immediately with the Shark and I have to say there was plenty in the dirt holder, which really surprised me. It's great on the stairs as you can separate the cylinder from the floor standing bit and it has a reasonably long lead. I'm glad I paid a bit extra and bought the powered version as it really glides effortlessly even over thick pile carpet and the only minor drawback is that it's taller than the Dyson so I have to take the top handle off to get it into its "home" under the stairs, but that's a really minor gripe compared to what it can do better than the Dyson. It also comes with an attachment for hard floors although I haven't tried that yet.

It seems solid and well built and everything that should click into place does so easily and although there are several different buttons to play with, they are all well labelled.

The final thing that made up my mind is that apparently this is a Which? Best Buy, although I have only the advertising promotion to go on as I don't subscribe.

Simply the Best

I can't believe how good this vacuum cleaner is, I had a Dyson previously about a year old but just did not seem to do the job well. The Shark 680 ukt is the best vacuum I have ever had, hoovered my house the day after using my Dyson and by the time I had finished the cylinder was full, we have two cats so there is always lots of hair around the house, anybody buying this Shark vacuum cleaner will not be disapointed.

Sometimes expensive,does not mean a better product..

I have always bought Dysons,in the past,basically believing all the dross that massive advertising buys you.
My last Dyson..a DC40,was the worst item I have ever bought from amazon..so flimsy it was incredible,a 1 meter vacuum hose!!..so would always pull the vacuum over when trying to vacuum the stairs,would constantly block up,and actually a piece of plastic that holds the hose in place broke off the first time I used it!..and all the quality for £350!!..I could buy a decent second hand car for that.
So this time,i did a little bit of research outside the ususal brands,and noticed the shark was getting limited,but very good reviews..so I took a chance.As others have said..its a vacumm cleaner..but I really had to write this to try to get the message across,that this item is fantastic.
Its light.sucks so hard,you can see the carpet lifting as you vacuum,great tool storage,comes with a hard floor vacuum head,and the massive bonus,of being able to detach to cylinder from the vacuum body,so you can carry it with ease with you when vacuuming the stairs..they even include a shoulder strap for the cylinder when performing this normally tedious chore.
Quite simply a ingenious design for half the money of a Dyson...don't believe the hype.
I also see this model won a Which study..and no I don't work for Shark..just a happy customer!
